Report triggered MV3 static rules/ruleset limitations

I turn on the filter lists. 36 of them. After about ten minutes, the filter lists turn themselves off.

Are you using other content blocker extensions?

Are you using some sort of antivirus or "cleaner" which could be removing uBOL's saved settings?

Had a hunch maybe I could reproduce with other MV3 content blockers with a lot of lists enabled in these blockers. So I could reproduce similar symptoms when I first enable AdGuard MV3, then enabled as many lists as possible until there is a warning about rule limit.

I then enabled uBOL and enabled all the lists. Once done, forcing a reload of the dashboard shows that all regional lists were not enabled. The issue is MV3-imposed limitations:

background.js:1 Uncaught (in promise) Error: The set of enabled rulesets exceeds the rule count limit.

Each extension have a "guaranteed minimum static rules", which is 30K in Chromium. However an extension can go above this limit, up to what is called the "global static rule limit", which I believe is 300K or 330K in Chromium. Whichever extension makes use of available rules beyond the minimum guaranteed one will prevent other extensions from using these available static rules.

If instead I disable AdGuard, then enable all the lists in uBOL, then next time AdGuard starts, it will be the extension being afflicted by the lower availability of static rules -- in which case AdGuard is erroring with "The extension failed to load properly. It might not be able to intercept network requests."

In summary, it's browser-imposed limitations, but uBOL should provide feedback about the limits being hit.

Another limit to mind is maximum of no more than 50 static rulesets per extension. There are currently 51 static rulesets in uBOL, so even if uBOL is the only content blocker, enabling all the lists is not possible.

I used two extensions: uBlock Origin Lite and AdBlock. i disabled AdBlock. I turn on the filter lists. There are now four of them. The filter lists are disabled by themselves.

I don't use antivirus. I just started using uBlock Origin Lite and AdBlock today. yesterday I used BleachBit. because of this I can no longer enable uBlock Origin. as I understand it, you can only use one extension and that is uBlock Origin Lite or AdBlock.

How many lists (including custom lists) did you enabled in AdBlock?

In any case:

• Do not use multiple content blockers at once, see https://x.com/gorhill/status/1033706103782170625
• Do not enable all lists, this will just increase the likelihood of breakage for little to no benefits

Err sorry, misread the first time. Even uBOL alone and no other content blocker, it's possible to run into browser-imposed limitations. There is no fix for this, the only fix entertained here is to emit a warning when one of those limitations is reached rather than silently fail.

Issue needs to stay open, there is something to address, the lack of warnings when a limitation is hit.
