Software does not magically appear out of nowhere, and more importantly, like any infrastructure it requires maintenance.

That work is done by people, mostly outside of their work hours, and open-source software is hugely beneficial to our communities, societies and economies. If you are using open-source software (really, everyone is), consider sponsoring the projects you care about and/or the people who contribute to those! Especially if you're not contributing otherwise yourself.
