Blinking text caret on seekbar with "text cursor navigation" setting in Chromium

Prevent blinking text caret from showing on seekbar by changing user-select CSS property to none in .shaka-range-container.shaka-seek-bar-container element.

How to reproduce this issuse?
start interacting with the player and a blinking text caret appear on seek bar.

How can I reproduce this? shaka-seek-bar-container is a div, not an input thus no selection to begin with.

@matvp91 I think the reason the text caret appeared has nothing to do with shaka-seek-bar-contianer. After adding user-select: none to shaka-seek-bar-contianer text caret moved to the top left corner of the player. I need to add user-select: none to shaka-video-container to make it disappear completely. If you look closely, you can see the blinking caret on the seekbar.

I ran the same content from the same URL and I didn't see a blinking caret. What's your browser, browser version, OS? These are all things we ask in the issue template, BTW. Please make sure you use the template next time.

I'm using latest version of chromium Chromium 138.0.7204.183 built on Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm). I found no issue with Firefox.

I'm wondering if you have some user CSS being applied by default. Do you have anything like that installed?

Any custom patches applied to Chromium?

Are you using a version you built yourself, or a packaged version that is part of Debian?

What do you get from chrome://version/ ? For comparison, mine is:

Google Chrome: 138.0.7204.185 (Official Build) (arm64)
Revision: 1a058aeb041b4cbf93140e00bb2075106c8bc669-refs/branch-heads/7204@{#2437}
OS: macOS Version 15.5 (Build 24F74)

I tested on actual Google Chrome (downloaded from official website) instead of Chromium, and the blinking caret didn't show up.

@joeyparrish I'm using Debian's official packaged version of Chromium. Should I close this issue since it works fine on official Google Chrome? I think the bug is related to Debian's patched Chromium.

That's very helpful. Now that we know the root cause, do you want to submit a PR with a fix? You said adding user-select: none to .shaka-video-container helped, and now that we know why/how it helps, I'm not against the change with an appropriate comment.

@joeyparrish Yes, it would be better to stop the caret from showing even if the user turned on that setting.
