closing a data object via x after you click on it to get the value

right now the x doesn't work like it's supposed to. if you put the cursor right in the middle of the x and click, it doesn't work. if you put your cursor somewhere near it, it works. you can also close the modal by clicking outside, but the x should work. convert to MUI modal?
