SOCKS not working

Hello. I am trying to route traffic through the SOCKS5 proxy, but I receive this error.
Exception: Invalid version 'C' (not configured as unencrypted SOCKS proxy?)

HTTP works fine.
Running this on iPhone and Windows PC.

As it says, you need to configure this as a SOCKS proxy. The error message suggests that you’ve configured it as an HTTP proxy instead, which isn’t going to work.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply. I am using the SOCKS address and port listed on Pythonista when the script is ran. I then configure my Windows proxy settings to use the address and port listed, but to no avail. Also tried using Proxifier.

How are you connecting to your Windows device? Ad-hoc, Wi-Fi, or Mobile Hotspot?

Okay, instead of selecting "Manual Proxy Setup" on your Windows PC, try selecting "Automatic Proxy Setup", and enter the PAC URL as displayed in Pythonista (looks like: http://172.20.10.1:8088/wpad.dat) into the "Script address" field.

Hello, tried what you mentioned above. It worked for regular traffic like browsing the internet. But when I load up a game, it does throws the same error mentioned earlier.

For gaming or any apps that primarily communicate via UDP, you may need to use something like SSTap, which is what nneonneo recommends to force all connections through the proxy.

Or you could try using Proxifier again with the SOCKS5 proxy, but you'll need to change the default DNS settings of Proxifier from "Detect DNS Settings automatically" to "Resolve hostnames through proxy", and remove "localhost" from the DNS exclusion list, so it's allowed to be resolved through the proxy. That should fix the error messages you were receiving.

I changed the settings you mentioned. I removed the 3 default settings from the DNS exclusion as well. It fixed the error messages, now I do get an assertion error. IT also appears my game does connect through the proxy (forced by Proxifier), but any information such as my In/Out info does not mirror the game. The fix did work though. Thank you so much.
