Backwards compat not to good

Every time we support a new cc, version, I get tons of errors and have to update to the latest claude code. I was 1 ver behind and it didn't work

With the latest update pushed today which included my fix for #506, I left previous version logic in place for backwards compatibility. Future updates I open I will try to make sure to keep this pattern of retaining backwards compatibility at least for one previous version. At least this confirms my initial intuition that there is a need for some sort of backwards compat features.
