The idea here is that you can accidentally create a "slow" simulation by reporting on combinatorially explosive simulation state that you don't actually want. It's probably not helpful to take a snapshot of your entire universe upon every property value change, for example.

Of course, this is not strictly a performance issue. It might belong more property to a dedicating chapter on reporting.
